WHY FILL SOME GAPS IN THE HISTORY OF NEBRASKA ?

We want to get people talking about the experiences of Native Americans, African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans and Recent Refugees and how they fit into our larger Nebraska history. Researching and writing this history was a search for the truth. It’s like detective work — a search for evidence. We believe that today in Nebraska, we can learn from the past and shape a better future.

A society that does not allow a history and voice of a diverse and cultural community will not be able to experience a future of truth and reconciliation.

Marty Ramirez

Retired Psychologist

We have not told the truth about our past; it is time to do so.

Paul Olson

Emeritus UNL Professor

After visiting a high school history class session, I understood why many of my Nebraska students know little about the history of race relations, indigenous history and racial minority experiences in their home state.. This project informs educators and students about the rich, diverse history of Nebraska.

Jeannette Eileen Jones

UNL History Professor

Our knowledge of history will help us create a brighter future.

Susana Geliga

UNO History Professor

What should we know about our fellow Nebraskans beyond the superficial? How can greater understanding help us all thrive?

Kathleen Johnson

Retired Humanities Librarian

History must be told by all partakers in order to gain a broader understanding of each unique story. It is then that we can have greater insight, gratitude and empathy for one another.

Jackie Guzman
